Conway Hall Student Committee hosts the Catholic Cup in support of the Cardinal Hume Centre

Monday 31st March Notre Dame London students will face off against players from St Mary’s University Twickenham in the 9th annual Catholic Cup charity football match. Both teams will compete to win The Hutchinson Catholic Cup and raise donations for the Cardinal Hume Centre, a Westminster charity that supports local families facing food and housing insecurity.

Hall Committee member Connor Casey (‘26) reflects on his time preparing for the upcoming match:“Being part of the Catholic Cup team, both on and off the field, has been an incredible blessing. It has allowed me to channel my passion for 'football' (I’ve been converted!) into supporting a meaningful cause while building strong friendships with my classmates. Whether writing controversial post-match commentaries with teammates, creating newsletters and collaborating with the Hall Committee team, or engaging in fierce matchups on Monday nights, it has been a true highlight of my study abroad experience!”

Another Hall Committee member, Clare Rosa (‘26), feels that the Catholic Cup’s fundraising beneficiary is an essential local charity. She says, “The Cardinal Hume Centre is an extremely important organization that helps combat the issue of poverty among youth and families around London. Every donation counts toward making a difference in so many peoples' lives.”

The Cardinal Hume Centre supports families and young people with “the opportunity to build better lives,” Casey explains. “Having taken these blessings for granted, we feel deeply compelled to support such an inspirational cause, and what better way to do so than through the game that unites the world?”

Rosa’s main takeaway from her time organizing the Catholic Cup? She says the experience “has been a great way for me to give back to the community in which I am studying abroad this semester.”
