The Geodesic Principle: A Notre Dame-Oxford-Geneva Workshop on the Philosophy of Physics

The Geodesic Principle will explore the foundations of General Relativity in the lens of the Philosophy of Physics. This joint-university workshop will address the philosophical question of "theory change" and the issue of how results such as "Newton's laws" and "special relativistic motion" get interpreted in light of successive theories. The discussion will involve exchanges between top physicists in the field, as well as philosophers and historians of physics from the University of Notre Dame, the University of Oxford, and the University of Geneva. The conversation will be directed towards collaborating on a series of research papers of the topic and applying for a collaborative grant. Attendees from the University of Notre Dame will include Dr. Nicholas Teh, Dr. Feraz Azhar, Dr. Dominic Dold, and doctoral student Patrick Shields.
