New Direction in Women's Periodical Studies
This conference, titled "New Directions in Women's Periodical Studies," gathers together key scholars working in the field of women's print media. The conference focuses on methodological innovations and the question of new directions in the study of women's periodicals. Because they engage popular modes of discourse, or they are overtly political, or they foreground issues sometimes deemed trivial such as fashion or domestic life, women's print media forms often slip through the investigative models we use to explore other modern forms of print. By restoring to view and analyzing the print media which served as the vehicles for debates about the arts, modern life, politics, economics, and women's roles, this conference makes a major contribution to revisionist scholarship on the modern period. By highlighting questions of method and fostering cross-disciplinary dialogue, this conference celebrates contemporary work in women's print media.
